Met zijn eerste solo-EP geeft Karam Al Zouhir een muzikale vertaling aan de ervaring van ontworteling. Oorspronkelijk afkomstig uit Damascus en tegenwoordig gevestigd tussen Marseille en Strasbourg, plaatst hij de altviool in het hart van zijn creatieve werk: een bijzonder instrument voor solo-optredens. Hij verkent de warme, houtachtige klank en diepte van de altviool om het concept van het ‘elders’ te verbeelden.

Mashka Daym (Viola Tales of Exile) is een veelzijdig werk waarin creatieve muziek de poëzie van Konstantinos Kavafis (Griekenland), Salwa Zakzak (Syrië) en André Weckmann (Elzas) ontmoet. Mashka Daym is een muzikale ode aan herinnering en verbondenheid, waarin oude reisverhalen resoneren met de realiteit van vandaag. Op het podium creëert Karam Al Zouhir, met zijn stem en zijn altviool, een verbinding met het publiek en brengt hij een boodschap van hoop: thuis is niet alleen een land, maar ook een geur, een accent en een gedeelde melodie.
